TRIDENT High School bounced back from a first up loss to win their second game of the Baywide Secondary School Cricket Championship.
After losing to Bethlehem College in round one, Trident were in good form at Rex Morpeth Park on Saturday, beating Tauranga Boys College 2 by 116 runs.
Trident made steady progress with Hamish and Ben Wilde accumulating runs with Hamish making 19 and Ben 35.
Trident were 69/1 in the 20th over before Josiah Atkinson top scored with 39 and Aidan Doyle made 18 to put pressure on the visiting bowlers.
Brooke Collier and Kevan Arnold put on a final flourish as Trident posted 194/9 from their 45 overs.
It was a solid comeback for the middle order who, the previous week, lost six wickets for just seven runs.
Tauraanga’s reply was put under pressure by Doyle and Tom Casey, who were difficult to play in their opening bowling spells.
This allowed first change bowlers Jackson Sinclair, who took 2-4 in four overs and Cameron Lee, 2-7, as Tauranga struggled at 32/4 in the 15th over.
Spinner Atkinson continued to exert the pressure with figures of 1-18 from seven overs while left armer Karl Scholtens finished of the Tauranga innings at 78.
He took 3/18 in four overs. Trident will face a sterner challenge this Saturday when they travel to Otumoetai College.
