Eastern Bay team keen to finish season on high note

Tuesday, 27 July 2010
THE Eastern Bay rugby team has their last game of the season next month as they look to retain the Basil Simpson Trophy.
The annual fixture against East Coast is set to be played at Opotiki’s Princess Street Reserve on August 21.
The Eastern Bay team will also be keen to finish on a high after a disappointing sub-union series where they lost to Central and Western Bay.
The team has the familiar look about it with a powerful forward pack dominated by players from Whakatane Marist and Opotiki.
Whakatane Marist players make up a large part of the team including Alamoti Te Pou, Matt Te Pou, Tom Haney, Simon Kololofai, Dan Bowater, Abe Tito, Tupae Tutua, Pineha McNeil and Walter Treviranus.
Iconic Opotiki front-rower Dean Elmiger will captain the Eastern Bay team and will be joined by teammates Francis Cameron, Wayne Hurunui, Joseph Howe, Maka Maafi, Roha Maxwell, Haize Moore, James Thompson, Kevin Waterson and Reece Simpson. Scott Sutherland, Mikaere Ngamotu, Miru Young and Luke O’Brien from Te Teko are also in the squad. Paddy Wana and Luke Hendrickson are in the squad from Paroa and Joel Mathews is the sole representative from Taneatua.
Opotiki players Te Amo and Te Hata Wilbore and Matt Henwood are unavailable due to Bay of Plenty development team commitments.
