A GROUP of Eastern Bay runners and walkers made their eighth appearance at the Great Lake relay at Taupo recently.
The distance of the race was 155 kilometres around Lake Taupo and over 5000 entrants entered the event.
The group of athletes from Otakiri put in three teams for the event which can be made of between 10 and 18 members.
They had a walking team, running team and composite team and competitors covered legs between 5.2km and 14.4km. The group trained twice a week since late December.
The Flapping Pukekos placed 75th in the runners section in a time of 14 hours eight minutes and 55 seconds.
The Wandering Pukekos placed 37th in the composite section ina time of 16.55.12. The Wandering Clogs placed 24th in the walkers section in 23.23.52.
Another Eastern Bay team, the Whakatane Warriors, placed 77th in the composite section while Edgecumbe team Busens and Friends were 82nd.
