MONDAY night racing for the Eastern Bay Cycle Club continued on the East Bank Road course with Blair McComb notching up another win.
The A and B grade riders raced together to create a bunch of 13 riders. Halfway out, Dave Milne made a solo attack off the front and lasted half a kilometre before being brought back.
Rob Donald tried an immediate counter-attack, only to be shut down quickly. On the return trip, Rex Humpherson went to the front several times and increased the tempo but was unable to shake off any of the other riders. In the end it came down to a bunch sprint and Milne started the lead out before Wayne Wills sprinted off his shoulder.
Humpherson attacked on the inside while McComb went on the outside. In the end McComb crossed the line first with Humpherson right on his wheel.
Dennis Sax was next across the line to win the B grade race, followed by Greg Jones, Eric Horwood and Paul Wills. Donald got up to take third place in the A grade.
In the C grade race, Peter Smit continued his winning ways and may have to move up to the B grade. He was followed home by Heke Samuels and Bret Wills. Glyn Hay won the D grade race from Denny Adamson and Bill Whale.
Last night was the Hill Climb Club Championships on the Manawahe hills. The club’s annual time trial championships had to be postponed due to heavy rain on Thursday last week and the 40km race will take place next Thursday.
Club training rides leave every Sunday morning at 8am from near the Pak’N Save car park in Kopeopeo.
