Wednesday, 01 September 2010
A MAN facing multiple charges of sexually violating and indecently assaulting children as young as six years old can be named as Gary Tanner of Kawerau.
The 65-year-old was charged with 10 counts of indecently assaulting children, three charges of sexual violation and one of supplying cannabis to a person under the age of 18.
The charges relate to incidents that allegedly took place over a six-year period between 2003 and 2009.
Tanner has not entered a plea and has been bailed to reappear in the Whakatane District Court on October 20.
Meanwhile another Eastern Bay man appeared in court yesterday facing two historical indecent assault charges from alleged incidents in 1980 and 1982.
At the request of lawyer Roger Gowing, Judge Patrick Treston granted interim name and detail suppression for the accused for 21 days, so he could inform his employer of the charges.
The man was remanded on bail to reappear on September 22.
