TE Teko Kohanga Reo’s new wharenui has been officially blessed and opened at a special kaumatua day.
The preschoolers called their kaumatua onto the kohanga and then performed for their elders before an official blessing of the wharenui, which was errected last year.
The carvings were made by Reuben Manaia with parents and children helping with the tukutuku panels.
It has been named Whakaruruhou o Te Nani Rauako Kanui, in dedication to Charlie Vercoe and Kanui Wetini, who were founding members of the kohanga.
